Position Title: Summer Camp On-Site Assistant Director (hiring 1)
Position Description:
New Pond Farm is a non-profit environmental education center and working farm located on 102-acres in rural West Redding, CT, about one hour north of New York City. New Pond Farm offers a residential summer camp for inner-city youth from CT and day camp for local children. The camp works with children 8-12 years old, and consists of three 10-day sessions, totaling eight weeks of employment. Established in 1985, our summer camp has given hundreds of inner-city children a taste of life in the country, and a chance to live, work and play on the farm for 10 days along side children who have grown up in the area. Our camp is small and personal (8 inner-city youth and 8 area children per session) which allows our summer staff to have a positive impact on our campers.

As a summer camp alternate director, you will enjoy living and working on a beautiful working farm. Facilities include a bunkhouse/Indoor Learning Center with accommodations for the campers and counselors, a full kitchen, bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities, classrooms and meeting areas. Daily activities include hiking, gardening/farming, swimming, astronomy, arts and crafts and much more.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Already served one summer as Camp Director or 16 weeks of documented supervisory/administrative experience in an organized camp. Successful applicants are experienced working with children of different backgrounds and ages, have a love of the outdoors, are patient, team oriented and creative. Our inner-city campers come from challenging backgrounds, and for some, it is their first extended stay away from home.

Responsibilities include training and supervising of (2-3) counselors, providing assistance to the campers and staff, act as first responder to all emergencies, weekly reports to Camp Director/Program Director on camp, assist with paperwork in compliance with state license, meet with state and local inspectors during season to review paperwork,  oversee camper write-ups, create three session newsletters and overall programming.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration.

Compensation – $3,500-$4,000 DOE and certifications.
